Tuesday, 11th June 2024
Perth, Australia
2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Match

Stats & Facts:
In memory of Australian soccer player Dylan Tombides, who died on April 18, 2024, the Socceroos wore this warm-up shirt during the warm-up against Palestine.

The striker played a total of 5 games for the Australian U17 national team (Joeys) and 4 games for the Australian U23 national team (Olyroos).

His most famous football photo is from the U17 FIFA World Cup 2011 game against Ivory Coast, where Dylan scored the late winning goal for Australia, and dedicated the goal to his mother on her birthday by writing "Happy Birthday Mum X" on his shin pads and holding it up to a camera.

He sadly died on April 18, 2014 from testicular cancer, which he had suffered from since 2011. During the course of his illness, Tombides became involved with the cancer organization One for the Boys, which aims to raise awareness of cancer in men and whose prominent supporters include the actor Samuel L. Jackson, the snooker player Jimmy White and the singer Peter André.

The DT38 Foundation has been set up in memory of Dylan Tombides. The West Ham Family thought so highly of Dylan that they retired his number 38 and made DT38 one of their principal charities.

Dylan Tombides - gone, but never forgotton, always one of us!
